Cervical Cancer Screening Workshops in Northeast India
Cervical cancer is the only cancer that is entirely preventable. Early detection and treatment are essential for a successful outcome. However, in Northeast India, most cases of cervical cancer are detected at an advanced stage, when treatment is less successful. This is due to a lack of public awareness and organized screening programs.
To address this need, the Cancer Foundation of India (CFI) is organizing cervical cancer screening workshops for in-service clinicians from district hospitals and medical colleges in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura. The workshops will provide training in the methods and techniques of detecting early lesions of cervical cancer and its treatment.
Why are these workshops important?
Cervical cancer is a major public health problem in Northeast India. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, Northeast India has the highest incidence of cervical cancer in the country. This is due to a number of factors, including early marriage, early childbearing, and multiple pregnancies.
